HPRA WEB SITE INFORMATION...
HUGHPURVIS.COM and DD709.COM are the two WEB addresses the Hugh Purvis Reunion Association traditionally uses to provide you with all kinds of information. Using either address will take you to our real home page, HughPurvis.com. Use it and have fun with it. (We actually own all of the (DD709 and Hughpurvis) ".com", ".org" and ".net" versions. All will redirect to the main Hughpurvis.com page. This is so no one else can use them for their own site.
The webmaster, as the developer of web sites are usually called, is always open to suggestions and comments. Each page will have a link at the bottom for you to send email with your comments, suggestions or concerns. Items shown below that are bold and underlined are links to somewhere or something. There are also one or more small "ships patch's" on most pages. Clicking the patch will send you back to the previous page. The one on the home page will send you to the top of the page. The ships patch within the top "big" logo will also send you back to the home page from any other.
HUGHPURVIS.COM (AKA dd709.com) consists of a number of pages, all with, hopefully, useful information and entertainment for you (underlined titles are links to that page)...

Some items you will see, like the "Membership Form", the modified "Newsletter" etc. are in "PDF" format. Your computer will need to have "Adobe Reader " or similar software installed in order to access them. Some files on the DD709 Yahoo Group also require this. If you do not have it, it is available by going to the Shipmate Resources page and selecting the link for "Adobe Reader " in the software section. This will provide you with the latest version. It is sometimes installed in conjunction with other software. PDF's on this site should open in a new browser window or tab, depending how your browser is set to handle the request, and will not have a "return to previous page" button (like the ones you see below).
The Hugh Purvis web site is open to the world and is updated periodically to reflect the latest. As new information develops on future reunions or anything else important to you, it will appear on the site. If you have something you would like to see, let us know. Make the Hugh Purvis web site one of your favorites and check it often. If you feel you would like to write something for the site, please do just that and we will make arrangements to present it. Also, please get the word out to anyone you think should know about us.
COMMANDING OFFICER PROJECT...
The Commanding Officers page was last updated on 06/16/2011 using information from shipmates and the members of NavSource. We believe we have as correct a list as possible. If you have anything to add, please address it to the webmaster. Among the missing are some dates and photos. There is a "Notes" page that you can get to from the NOTES column in the table. Clicking on some of items in there will bring up the Notes page.

HOW TO UPLOAD PHOTOS for the PHOTO GALLERY and Slide Show...
There are a several methods you can use to upload photos for the "PICTURE GALLERY" and Slideshows. If you have only a few, you can email them to the webmaster (link below). This is good for up to 3 photos at a time. They are sent as attachments in the email. The Help link in the email form explains how. You can also get the real email address from the latest HPRA directory. Look inside the cover page for it.
If you have more than a few, we have another method for you. A special account has been set up using the Google Picasa web site. Picasa is a free photo sharing site available to all. Anyone can get Google account for free. With Picasa, you get one gigabyte of space to use. Our Reunion Slide Show uses that site. For this purpose, the site is...
If you select the above
link, you will be redirected to it and will see what is posted so far.
In order to upload your photos, you will need the login (username) and
password. For security reasons, that information will not be posted.
All
you need to do is send an email to the webmaster (link
below)
and the required information will be sent back to you,
assuming you are an HPRA member listed in the Shipmate
Directory, active or inactive, or you can include some information to
show that you were once stationed aboard the Hugh Purvis (any time -
any rate - any rank).
Once you have the information, go to the link above and sign in using the "Sign In" link near the top of the page next to Help. Once signed in, select UPLOAD near the top. On the next page, you can select "create new album" or add your photos to the "GENERAL" album. If you create a new album, give it a name, your name or subject, and something in the description box about them. Once you are ready, select "Add Photos", and a window will open allowing you to locate the photos on your PC. Once you are finished uploading, you can edit your uploaded photos to add captions, rearrange them or delete any you don't want. When finished, please make sure you "Sign Out" then send email to webmaster using the link at the bottom of the page so I know about them. The photos will eventually be moved to the Photo Gallery and removed from Picasa.
There is also a "You Tube" site for video purposes. Your videos can be uploaded in the same way as regular photos. They will be converted for web site use and be linked through the Video Page.
If you only have a hard copy of your photos and cannot or do not want to scan them, you can send them via US Mail to me. If this is your choice, email the webmaster and he will provide you his snail- mail address.
