Hugh Purvis Reunion Association and the Y!Group DD709
Two goals of the Hugh Purvis Reunion Association (HPRA) are to distribute official information about our annual reunion events and to provide assistance in locating DD709 shipmates. Hence, a subscribe-to-only internet-based bulletin-board type forum was established in July 2006 to facilitate that goal. That forum is called the "DD709 Yahoo! Group” or “DD709 Y!Group”. The DD709 Y!Group is powered by servers maintained at groups.yahoo.com , and its homepage URL is groups.yahoo.com/group/dd709/ .
As a supplement to the HPRA's official website (HughPurvis.com), the DD709 Y!Group permits communication with active members of the HPRA in a timely manner via an electronic bulletin board. Various official documents are stored at the DD709 Y!Group, such as, the HPRA's full Newsletters and the HPRA’s Shipmates Directory. Links to recommended websites and photos are shared by shipmates via our Y!Group. As a bulletin-board type forum, posted messages are available to each Y!Group member.
All HPRA members are invited to join the DD709 Y!Group. The application process really is an easy one. However, a prerequisite is that you have a free registered Yahoo! Groups ID in good standing with groups.yahoo.com. Either the Subscribe Box or the Join Button shown below may be used to initiate your application process for joining our Y!Group.
If you already subscribe to any Y!Group forum, then you have it easy, because you already have the required Yahoo! ID and profile. You should then enter the email address that you want to register in the Subscribe Box. A confirmation email will be sent to you via that email address.
If you are not yet a Y!Group forum subscriber: Do not worry. In your case, click on the Join Button to quickly jump to the homepage for our Y!Group. Once you are at the DD709 Y!Group's homepage, you will see a button that reads "Join this Group.' To join, click on that button, then perform the step-by-step procedural instructions that appear on your screen.
Your application to join must be approved by the Y!Group moderators. To complete your application process, tell the moderators who you are in a reply email. Include enough information so they feel confident that you are truly an active member of the HPRA. Your reply might read something like this:
"My name is Jeff Sailor. I was a sonarman on board the Huey P from 64 to 66. My boss was Chief Mustardi. I have been a member of the HPRA since 1991."
Please join our DD709 Y!Group; it is free to you and potentially saves the Association some money. Another HPRA goal is to have as many of its members to also be members of our DD709 Y!Group. Think about it. Don’t Forget About It!
